Christian anger management is about controlling anger for Christian reasons. There are principles outlined in the Bible, which show Christians the way that anger should be managed. And once a Christian has God's benefit in mind he is likely to find that he is able to carry out his instructions and be satisfied to do so.

Throughout the Bible the instructions are given to address different situations, but they carry certain themes, and on this page we look at some of the beginning principles that show a Christian his mindset or attitude he should have in this regard.

Christian anger management begins with prayer.

Like all other Christian endeavors Christian anger management also needs to begin with prayer for change to take place. Help will be needed to thoroughly understand your situation and you will also need guidance about what actions you should take.

There are instructions about how a Christian is to manage his own anger, the reasons why he would want to, and also how he is to manage the anger of another person.

Refrain from anger…

In the psalms the Christian is instructed that even if provoked he is to choose to not get angry. Two ways of doing this are mentioned. In one place the instruction is to overlook when you are insulted, and in another place the word is to not fret about anything.

Overlooking insults is simply another way of saying that you must forgive others when they have wronged you. Not fretting means to recognize that something is wrong, and could get worse but as far as you are concerned, you are expecting everything to be alright.

Both of these ways of action will make your experiences with anger brief, and keep you in the Christian anger management way.

Reasons why…

The Bible also gives details about why you want to keep yourself from becoming angry.

In one instance, the wisdom given to us says that following anger does not produce the kind of actions that please God. It produces unrighteousness.

Acting out in anger so that it hurts people is always against the principles of personal behavior that wisdom insists are the correct way to act. When you act in anger, quarrels continue to thrive; foolish things are done, and often times many sins are committed.

As a Christian managing your anger, your goal is really to trust God to take vengeance on those deserving of it. You are not passing judgment yourself and taking matters into your own hands. You are reducing yourself to listen and obey the ways of God; doing this ultimately sets you up for God to reward you with peace in life.

You should know though that when you act this way, you are most definitely not letting your enemy get away with his wrong doing. God will judge, and everybody will be justly rewarded.

How to get rid of anger…

Christian anger management says that not only must you control and be rid of your anger, but you also need to know how to deal with, or defuse the anger of other people.

In the case of your own personal anger, you instructions are to let it go before nightfall. You may feel as if someone should not be forgiven so easily for what they have done, but as said earlier God Himself will repay them. This is another Christian anger management principle that should always be remembered.

When it is someone else's anger you need to know that deliberately chosen soft or gentle answers are what are necessary to get them to let their anger go if they become enraged.

This is important because when you help another person get rid of their anger, you might just be helping them to avoid doing wrong, which ultimately gives glory to God as this is what he wants to happen.
